Welcome

Merry Meet, all. Hummingbird, here. 21-year-old eclectic Pagan and witch who works primarily in crystal, warding, and energy magicks. Asexual, with a wonderful girlfriend. I am just beginning to learn the path of Athena. Attending college with end goal of a degree in Interior Design.

This blog is a digitalized record of my life as a Pagan. It includes spells, charms, notes on the properties of various magickal items, and my own personal experiences with my practice. Sometimes I post multiple times a day, sometimes it's once a month.

All are welcome here. Please, make yourself at home, and let me know if I can help you with anything. )0(

Konbanwa, ladies and gentlemen! Today, we have had lovely weather: Storm clouds, but very sunny at the same time, with a nice strong wind. I'm not sure why, but it's really my favorite kind. Continuing with yesterday's theme of Feng Shui, I'd like to get in to some of the first things to consider if you plan to "feng shui" a room or house. This information is coming from Feng Shui Made Easy again, but I'm feeling too lazy to write the whole chapter, so I'll give you a few bullet points, yes?
~~~~~~~~~~~~
  • Begin by cleaning the area you wish to improve. Yes, I said clean. No, it's maybe not the most fun thing in the world, but it is a necessary step to rid the area of negative or other unwanted energies.
  • Go a step further and wash everything down: clean the windows, floors, mirrors, etc.
  • You should also do something to cleanse the space: use some incense, holy water, etc., and clear out old energy.
  • Then map out the room/house. This will be important in figuring out what areas apply to which parts of your life. You don't need your picture to be exactly to scale unless you want it to be, but do try to take more than two seconds to sketch it out. An accurate drawing will be helpful for you later. Make sure to mark where the front door (or the door you use most often) is.
Just a little something to think about when you don't feel like cleaning and cleansing your space: In one of the World Wars (I think it was the first), a bomb was dropped on a hospital in the Ukraine, killing hundreds of innocent people. Later, an energy plant was built on the same site. No one considered cleansing the area of negative energy. Today, we know this place as Chernobyl.
Bagua Example
Wow, that last post ended up being quite a bit longer than I expected! Sorry about that! Anyway, here is a "Bagua", a type of Feng Shui chart, that shows some of the relationships between houses. Some of these, we covered under a different name, but I have the elemental correspondences listed in the last post, so I trust you can figure it out.
September 28th, 2011
First, I would like to note that the time-zone this blog is set to is off by a few hours; I do not sit around at 3:00 in the morning blogging. With that said, today, I am focusing on Feng Shui. If you have not yet figured it out, I love to read about the mystical, metaphysical, and magical, and today I started a book entitled Feng Shui Made Easy, by William Spear. In today's post, I will provide you with excerpts from a quiz in Chapter One, that will allow you to discover what aspects of your life need a bit (or a lot) of tweaking, and which need little or none.
~~~~~~~~~~
Of the options provided, choose the one that best fits your life as you see it. Bear in mind that every sentence is a sample situation, so just pick the one closest to events in your life. If you are a teenager, some things, like having children or jobs, may not apply to you. Think instead of the teen correlation: school, siblings, etc.

House: The Journey (Water)
A) Life flows along quite well. I'm on the right road. I'm doing the work I want to do. I feel acknowledged by my co-workers. I am satisfied with the work I do. I feel productive. I have a good job. I feel fortunate to be doing what I really want to do and enjoy doing it. I feel I'm sailing on a beautiful ocean liner!
B) As above, but less so.
C) As below, but less so.
D) I feel like a salmon swimming upstream - definitely against the flow. I do not have a job. I am working, but not doing what I want. I'm thinking about going into a whole new field. My resume is out there, but I'm not getting any calls. I don't like my job and am looking for a new one. I haven't had my luck in the workplace these days. Help! I'm drowning!
House: Relationships (Earth)
A) My relationships are great. I get a lot of attention from my mate. My social life is very active. My spouse is wonderful. I meet new people every week who ask me out. I feel as if we are still on our honeymoon. The phone hardly ever stops ringing. I'm recently engaged.
B) As above, but less so.
C) As below, but less so.
D) My social life is a disaster. I've tried everything to meet my match, but there just doesn't seem to be anyone interested. I feel jinxed. I'm in the process of separating. I just moved to town and have found it difficult to meet new people - one date is easy but they never call back. I thought celibacy would be better than this. I'm thinking about taking vows!
House: Elders (Thunder)
A) I get along very well with both my parents. I had a special relationship with one of my grandparents. My boss at work is a great supervisor. I have a mentor from college with whom I still keep in touch. I have a lot of teachers I highly respect. My dad died a while back; we finally came to peace over a lot of unresolved issues before he passed on. I have a deep respect for my ancestors.
B) As above, but less so.
C) As below, but less so.
D) I haven't spoken to my parents in years. My grandfather was a horrible man, and I never liked him. My boss is mean and insensitive. My mom and I argue all the time. My teachers never liked me. I don't usually get along very well with old people. One or both of my parents never loved me very much. Don't ask!

House: Fortunate Blessings (Wind)
A) I feel blessed with good fortune nearly every day. I make money and have a good income. People call me lucky. Money is not a problem for me. Things show up just when I need them.
B) As above, but less so.
C) As below, but less so.
D) I'm broke. I could barely pay my rent last month. I do not have a job. I'm pretty far in debt right now. When it comes to luck, I'm having a bad streak these days. It's really hard to pay the bills recently. Blessed? Ha! How 'bout cursed?
House: Unity (Tai Chi)
As this is a rather detailed house, we will get to this in another post.
House: Helpful Friends (Heaven)
A) I am an active volunteer in many organizations, giving both my time and my money whenever I can. Many friends would do anything for me, as I would for them. Sometimes I feel I have a guardian angel watching over me. I try to give generously to those in need. A lot of people have helped me in times of trouble. I am amazed that, whatever you give, you always receive much more in return.
B) As above, but less so.
C) As below, but less so.
D) When I'm down and out, I'm on my own. I'd like to help others more, sure, but I'm just so busy and I barely get by myself. People don't usually think of me as someone to depend on for support. I don't see many volunteers that help our group. Everyone is in it for the money. There is no such thing as angels except in fairy tales.
House: Creativity (Lake or Marsh)
A) My children are everything to me. I am very creative. I have no shortage of ideas or projects. Kids are great, and even though I don't have any, I really love them. As an artist, my creativity is my life, and I am very fortunate to be blessed with lots of it.
B) As above, but less so.
C) As below, but less so.
D) Children should be seen, not heard. I haven't had a new idea in years. We're having trouble conceiving. I can write poetry - if rhyming words counts - but usually feel pretty blocked. The last big project I worked on failed miserably. I want kids, but I think I'm infertile. My children and I don't get along at all. I feel less creative than a block of wood.
House: Contemplation (Mountain)
A) My life is full of spiritual meaning. I meditate every day. I love reading scripture and teachings of the masters. I am religious in my own way. I've done a lot of searching in this area, through many avenues, and have gone through lots of changes. Life is a mystery.
B) As above, but less so.
C) As below, but less so.
D) I'm pretty skeptical about what science can't prove. I'd like to meditate, but I'm too busy. Books on religion and the "spiritual world" bore me. I used to believe in God, but when I see all these religions fighting with each other, I'm not so sure. What you see is all there is; the rest is all manufactured for mass consumption. The New Age is a marketing ploy. Prayer makes no difference in my life. God is dead. I don't understand this part.
House: Illumination (Fire)
A) Every day is another miracle. Sometimes life feels like a dream. I have a good sense of myself and do not live to please others. I am usually very clear about my direction in life. People find me a source of inspiration. I feel contented to be alone, even though I enjoy other people in my life, too. My good intuition is a sign of my clarity.
B) As above, but less so.
C) As below, but less so.
D) How others feel about me matters a lot. I feel confused about half the time. Someone will show me how. Nobody really respects me for the work I do. It will be a long time before I'm anywhere near enlightenment. Death is a terrifying concept to me, and I am not ready, no way, not yet, please.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Do not worry if you don't have many As. The whole point of the quiz is to see where you can improve. Now make a priority list: sections with Ds first, then Cs, then Bs, and then As. By using Feng Shui, you should be able to raise these areas by at least a letter grade, if not more.
Red Coral
In union with yesterday's post about coral's uses in magic, here is a picture of a small piece of red coral.
Tuesday
September 27th, 2011
Today, I read Scott Cunningham's book Encyclopedia of Crystal, Gem, & Metal Magic. I should like to post a excerpt with regard to coral, as it is relatively common, and Cunningham's insightful, down-to-earth writing really gives a lot of good information on a subject I, at least, was quite unaware of.
~~~~~~~~~~

"Magical/Ritual Lore: Coral has played an important role in religious and magical rites throughout the Pacific islands.It is often placed on graves to guard the deceased, and temples were sometimes built of lava rocks and coral. In the Mediterranean, coral was thought, like amber, to contain the "life essence" of the of the Mother Goddess, who dwelled in the ocean in a "tree" of coral. There is a Hindu belief that the ocean is the home of human souls after death, and so coral is considered a powerful amulet for the living. It is also placed on dead bodies to prevent "evil spirits" from occupying it. In ancient Norse mythology, coral is again linked with deity. Because coral is neither a stone nor a plant substance, but the skeletal remains of a sea creature, many people object to its use in magic. We've gone beyond the time when we have to sacrifice living things (in this sense, coral) to practice magic. I don't see how picking up a piece of coral that washed up on the beach in Florida, Hawaii, or Italy, however, harms anything. It is up to you to decide if you want to use commercial coral in magic.
Magical Uses: On a warm, balmy day in Hawaii, I walked along a deserted beach. The aquamarine waters glistened and gently lapped at the gritty coral sand. Then, to my surprise and delight, a small piece of white coral washed up almost to my feet. A water-worn hole pierced the coral. I said my thanks and picked it up, recognizing it as a magical object. In ancient times, red coral was a gift from the deities. It was found on beaches throughout the world, but most often in Italy. To be powerful in magic, ancient people used coral that hadn't been worked by human hands; that is, it wasn't polished, ground, cut, or carved. Because coral was thought to be alive (as it once was), people believed that any processing would "kill" the magical energies within it. This isn't absolutely true today, but one belief is still current - if a piece of coral used in magic breaks for any reason, it has lost its power and a new piece must be obtained. Return the broken pieces to the ocean. ... Coral is still used in magic today. When worn so as to be plainly visible, it is a protective amulet. It is used against 'the evil eye, demons, furies, succubi, incubi, and phantasma' among other ills. It guards against accidents, acts of violence, poison, theft, possession, and sterility, the last especially in women. Coral is also worn to effect inner changes. It dispels foolishness, nervousness, fear, depression, murderous thoughts, panic, and nightmares. It confers reason, prudence, courage, and wisdom to its wearer.Placed benath the pillow, it produces peaceful sleep by driving away disturbing dreams. Coral has been used in magic relating to children for thousands of years.If presented as a gift to a child, it ensures their future health. Infants wear a coral pendant or beads to ease the pain of cutting teeth. It was also used in rattles to guard children. Place a piece of coral in a child's room to magically protect him or her. A special use of coral was popular in ancient Egypt and Greece.Powdered coral was mixed with seed and sown or scattered over newly planted fields.This protected the growing crops from inclement weather and insects. Coral was also hung on fruit trees to increase their yield. In healing, red coral was used to cure indigestion, all pains in the digestive tract, eye complaints, and to staunch blood. Also, red coral, when worn, had the power to alert its wearer of ill health by paling in color. Coral is used as a house-luck attractant. Take a piece of coral, and touch it to every door, window, and wall in the house while moving in a clockwise direction. Then put it in a place of prominence and let it do its magic. It also has associations with love. Coral earrings were worn by women in ancient Rome to attract men. Powdered coral was used in 16th century Venusian incenses, and red or pink candles ringed with pieces of coral are burned to draw love. Because of its associations with the sea, coral is also worn as a protectant while sailing or traveling over water, and guards boats against shipwreck. It is also sometimes worn as a protection against shark attack." (Cunningham, pages 99 - 101)

PRN

The Pagan Radio Network, or PRN is a website a friend showed me earlier today that plays all Pagan music, all the time. To tune in, head to www.paganradio.net and fire up the old media player. They also offer pagan talk shows, world news, and the like. I've been listening about half an hour, and I can already say: I like.

September 26th, 2011

Today, I made use of a protective dragon amulet I've been working on for the last couple of weeks. In honor of that, I shall post the meditation* that is used to create such an amulet.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Dragon's Loop
You will need:
  • an item to give to the person/animal/place to be protected (note: this does not have to be in the shape of a dragon, mine just happened to be)
  • some time
  • quiet, relaxing music (optional)
This takes 6 days or 6 weeks, depending on the abilities of the person making the amulet. Personally, even if you are brilliant at visualization, I would go the 6 week route at least the first time you empower an object in this manner. Perform each meditation for at least 5 minutes a day that week before moving on to the next step.
Week 1: Get to know the item by using all your senses to examine it. Look at it from 3 points of view: yours, a bird's, and an ant's.
Week 2: Meditate with the object. Imagine a "hologram" of the object twice its size superimposed over the original.
Week 3: Begin with Week 2's meditation. Then see the person/animal/etc. to be protected with the item. Imagine the hologram expanding to surround the entire subject.
Week 4: Repeat Week 3's meditation, then create a web of light that connects the subject, hologram, and item.
Week 5: Repeat week 4's meditation, then empower the web with divine energy. See white light forming an impenetrable shell (like a dragon's egg) around the subject.
Week 6: Conjurer a friendly dragon to assist you. Repeat Week 5's meditation, and then have the dragon breathe fire on the white light-shell to harden it.
The item should then be given to the subject, and they should continue to practice Week 6's meditation at least once a month.
*It should be noted that I am not the author of this. It actually comes from one of Silver Raven Wolf's novels, though I don't remember which off-hand. I know some people don't like her, but you should give the meditation a try anyway.
Chakra Symbols
Symbols and colors related to the Chakras: major energy points of the body. Just for the record, I drew all the pics on my computer, except for the last one, which I found on google images.
September 25th, 2011
My goal today is to attempt to create a blog about my life as a teen Pagan. Whether or not this will be something I use and update remains to be determined, but I hope I'll use it.
Anyway, last night I set up my Samhain altar, and I posted a video about it on Youtube here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNyCk6NQAzU
I really want to add more to this post, but that's all I can think of for now, so Blessed Be until next time.
